Rasa Sayang Resort Wedding Photographer — Penang’s Premier Beachfront Wedding Venue

There’s a reason couples from across Malaysia, Singapore, and beyond choose Rasa Sayang for their wedding day: 30 acres of pristine tropical gardens, a golden beachfront stretching along Batu Ferringhi, and a heritage that reaches back to the 1960s. This isn’t just a hotel — it’s one of Penang’s most iconic destinations.

At Jonajean Photography, we’ve spent years photographing weddings at Rasa Sayang. We know the exact spot on the Raintree Lawn where the canopy creates perfect dappled light at 4 PM. We know which angle on the beach catches the sunset without harsh shadows on your face. And most importantly, we know how to move through your wedding day — from quiet preparation moments in the Garden Wing suite to the energy of a packed Grand Ballroom — without ever being in the way.

Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa is one of Penang’s most prestigious addresses. Located along the pristine Batu Ferringhi coastline, the resort spans 30 acres of tropical gardens with direct beach access. It offers three distinct wedding environments under one roof — meaning your ceremony, reception, and portrait session can each have a completely different atmosphere without anyone needing to travel.

The resort is divided into two wings: the original Rasa Wing (heritage charm, closer to the gardens) and the newer Garden Wing (modern luxury, sea-facing rooms). Both offer excellent bridal preparation suites with plenty of natural light — a crucial consideration for wedding photography.

Wedding Venues Within Rasa Sayang

The Raintree Garden

The crown jewel of Rasa Sayang weddings. This manicured garden is framed by heritage rain trees whose broad canopies create a natural ceiling of filtered light. The result is soft, flattering illumination for your ceremony from mid-afternoon through to golden hour. It’s our favourite spot for couple portraits — the combination of tropical greenery and dappled sunlight produces consistently stunning results.

The Beachfront Lawn

An open-air ceremony space with the Andaman Sea stretching to the horizon behind you. Best scheduled for late afternoon when the sun is behind the sea, creating a natural backlight. This is ideal for couples who want barefoot-on-the-sand ceremony photos without actually being on the sand.

The Grand Ballroom

Elegant indoor reception space with chandeliers, floor-to-ceiling windows, and subtle sea views. Accommodates up to 400 guests for dinner. The ballroom’s neutral colour palette works beautifully with any wedding theme — from classic white to bold florals.
